Garage Slabs

Most residential garage slabs are poured at 4 inches. If you're storing heavy equipment, an RV, or running a home shop with heavy machinery, 5 to 6 inches with additional reinforcement is a better choice. We'll recommend the right thickness based on what the slab will be used for.

Surface pitting and spalling are usually caused by road salt and de-icing chemicals tracked in on vehicles. These chemicals attack the surface layer of concrete over repeated freeze-thaw cycles. A good concrete mix, proper curing, and a penetrating sealer applied after the slab has cured all help extend surface life.

It depends on the condition of the existing concrete. If deterioration is widespread or the slab has significant settling and cracking, full replacement is usually the better value. Localized spalling or a single cracked section can sometimes be addressed with a partial pour. We'll assess and give you an honest recommendation.

The garage apron is the transition slab between your driveway and the garage floor. It takes heavy repeated traffic from vehicle tires and is often the first section to crack or settle. A properly formed and poured apron, with the right slope and joint placement, prevents water from pooling at the garage entrance and reduces freeze-thaw damage.
