Concrete Steps

Concrete steps deteriorate most often due to freeze-thaw cycling combined with road salt tracked in from vehicles or applied for ice control. De-icing chemicals are particularly hard on concrete surfaces. Older steps may also have been poured with a mix that wasn't suited for Iowa's climate or lacked proper reinforcement.

Minor surface spalling and edge chipping can sometimes be patched, but structural cracking, settling, and widespread surface deterioration usually mean replacement is the better long-term value. A patch on failing steps often lasts only a season or two before the underlying problem resurfaces.

We can form and pour pocket sleeves for railing posts during the concrete work. Railing installation itself is typically handled by a separate contractor, but we coordinate the post pocket placement to match standard railing hardware so the transition is seamless.

Most entry step projects (demolition, forming, and pour) can be completed in one to two days. After the pour, steps need to cure for several days before they can bear regular foot traffic. We'll give you a clear timeline and make sure you have a safe temporary access plan during the project.
